That leftover stump in your yard is more than an eyesore — it's an active problem. Decaying stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, wood-boring beetles, and fungi that can spread to healthy trees, your fence posts, and even the wooden framing of your home. Stumps also continue producing shoots that compete with surrounding grass and plants for water and nutrients.
Beyond the pest and plant-health concerns, stumps are a real tripping and liability hazard — especially for children, elderly visitors, and lawn care equipment. Lawnmowers and weed trimmers regularly suffer blade damage from hidden stump edges and surface roots.
NatureCare North Port uses a commercial-grade stump grinder to reduce stumps to wood chips 8 to 12 inches below grade — deep enough to lay fresh sod, install a flower bed, pour a concrete pad, or plant a new tree in the same spot. We handle stumps of any size, from small ornamental tree remnants to massive oak and pine bases.
Our Stump Removal Process
Site Assessment
We evaluate stump size, wood species, root spread, and proximity to irrigation, utilities, and hardscape to determine the best approach.
Grinding Below Grade
Our grinder works the stump down 8–12 inches below ground level, eliminating the visible stump and most of the root plate.
Chip Cleanup or Spread
We rake out the wood chips and either haul them away or spread them as natural mulch around your landscaping — your choice.
Site Ready for Reuse
The ground is left level and ready for sod, landscaping, hardscape, or new plantings. We can also backfill with topsoil upon request.
Bulk Stump Grinding Discounts Available
Have multiple stumps? We offer discounted bulk pricing for 3 or more stumps on the same property — and for commercial land clearing projects. Call to ask about our multi-stump rates:
(941) 367-6791Stump Removal vs. Stump Grinding — What's the Difference?
Stump grinding reduces the stump and visible root flare to below ground level using a rotating cutting wheel. It's the most practical solution for most residential jobs — fast, effective, and minimal soil disruption. The remaining underground root system will decay naturally over several years.
Full stump removal includes excavating the entire root ball — a more invasive process that leaves a larger hole but completely eliminates all organic material. This is recommended when you plan to plant directly in the same spot immediately, or when the root system is close to a foundation or utility line. Ask us during your free estimate which approach is right for your situation.

A single decaying oak stump can support a termite colony of over 300,000 workers — and those termites don't stay in the yard. Stump removal is one of the best investments for protecting your home's structure.
